A Top Hand is the best cowboy on the whole ranch. I was only thirteen years old and I told them I was the Top Hand, silly because it’s not true. But they said OK, we will give you a job. So they told me

 - Those are your horses over there in that pen.

 Big five year old horses were there, they had never been touched and they were wild, came off the ranch. These horses were just rounded up and put in a corral. So they gave them to me to break, that's how I learned it. I learned it the hard way...
